Review: Asphalt: Injection

Seeing the Gameloft name is probably enough to make a lot of people run away from Asphalt: Injection. Most of their stuff tends to lean towards the mediocre side of things so I really wouldn’t blame you. That being said the initial hour or so of gameplay kept me on the optimistic side of things. Asphalt: Injection from the outset isn’t anything special but it’s competent enough to be an okay time waster. Unfortunately it doesn’t take long for all of that to blow up in your face and for frustration to replace any fun you might be having. Lots of content; LiveArea is put to good use Drifting doesn't feel good and often doesn't work; Crash Cam is terrible and cost me quite a few races.; Feels rushed; Crashing a lot even when I barely touch a wall Asphalt: Injection feels rushed and is far more frustrating than it's worth.

With Ridge Racer being delayed in the U.S. (probably due to the poor reception it received in the East), there hasn’t been a better time for another racer to fill its shoes and claim the crown of the handheld racing games. + Plenty of tracks + Lots of cars and upgrades + Multiple race types - Sub par graphics - Poor driving model - Terrible AI - Multiplayer is unbalanced Review copy of game provided by publisher. Asphalt: Injection

Not a bad game, but better arcade racers are on the horizon that are likely to give you a lot more bang for your buck. To the summary... Casual arcade racing. There are several modes, around fifty licensed cars, well over a dozen tracks -- some good elements to be sure, but the core gameplay isn't satisfying. Despite high speeds, I never felt an adrenaline rush or much intensity here. Not very good; I think the PSP could have handled this just fine. It doesn't come close to showing the true power of the Vita. The framerates are however very good and the music is alright, but it leaves a lot of room to improve. $30 is too much for an experience you can nearly replicate on tablets and smartphones. Moderately fun in short spurts but it doesn't push nor satisfy enough.
